Xilofarma - Offline-First Pharmacy POS
Xilofarma is a desktop, offline-first point-of-sale and management system for pharmacies, built as a native app with Rust, Tauri, and Svelte.
Xilofarma is an offline-first point-of-sale and management system for pharmacies that I co-founded and build as a software engineer. It runs as a native desktop application and keeps working with no internet connection: sales, stock, expiry tracking, and supplier purchasing all live locally on the pharmacy’s own computer, with the data encrypted on disk rather than stored in a third-party cloud.
Most pharmacy software assumes a reliable connection. Xilofarma assumes the opposite. The app is built offline-first, so the cashier, inventory, and procurement flows run entirely on the machine. The network is only needed for license activation, renewal, or releasing a device.
What it does
- Cashier: fast sales with instant product search, a cart, and direct printing to a thermal receipt printer
- Stock and expiry: real-time inventory with warnings for products approaching expiration
- Procurement: automatic purchase suggestions, purchase orders, and supplier goods receipt
- Companion mode: connect additional cashier devices over the local network (LAN) without a separate server
- Local encrypted database, automatic updates, and self-service license and device management
Role and stack
I’m a co-founder and software engineer on the project, working across both the product and the codebase, from architecture and data modeling to the desktop client. The application is built with Rust and Tauri for the native core and Svelte for the interface, packaged as a desktop app that ships with automatic updates.
