Mentoring

Get stuck? Let's talk.

Want to grow faster but unsure where to start? Drawing on my professional experience as a backend engineer and freelance web developer, I share what actually works, not just theory that sounds good in tutorials.

Who's your mentor?

Hi, I'm Rizky Kurniawan, a Backend Software Engineer based in Indonesia. Since 2022, I've worked full-time as a backend engineer, building and maintaining backend systems and collaborating with teams across many kinds of application projects.

Beyond writing code, I love to share what I know. I regularly mentor junior developers on my team, write about what I'm learning, and give back to the community through open-source work.

In these sessions, I share the things I wish someone had told me from the start: real patterns, practical code reviews, and honest career advice from someone still actively working in the industry.

Experience

  • 4+ years building production backend systems
  • Backend Engineer at Digdaya Olah Teknologi Indonesia
  • Founder & Backend Engineer of Cutr, an independent SaaS
  • Freelance Fullstack Developer (2020–2022)
  • Tech blogger at Ruang Developer
  • Open-source maintainer on GitHub

Challenges I can help you solve

These are the challenges developers face most often. Sound familiar?

Messy Code & Unclear Patterns

You write code that runs, but you know it's a mess underneath. You've heard about Clean Architecture and SOLID, but struggle to apply them in real projects.

System Design Confusion

Microservices, message queues, databases: you know the terms, but you're lost on how to design a real system from scratch.

Stuck in Tutorial Purgatory

You breeze through tutorials, but the moment you face a real project you're stuck. There's a big gap between following tutorials and building something on your own.

Debugging That Goes Nowhere

You've spent hours hunting a bug with no progress. You try one thing and a new problem appears. Pair debugging sessions can help you find the root cause faster.

What Should I Learn Next?

The developer ecosystem is vast. Containers, a new language, or system design, which should you learn first? That feeling of being overwhelmed is real.

Imposter Syndrome

You feel like everyone gets it except you. The voice in your head saying 'you're not good enough' can be paralyzing, let's face it together.

What you'll walk away with

Real skills and clarity you can put to use right after every session.

Architecture Clarity

Understand how to structure projects with Clean Architecture and DDD so the codebase stays maintainable as it grows.

Clean Code Habits

Build habits for writing readable, testable, and maintainable code, the kind that impresses senior engineers.

Real Code Reviews

Get real code reviews with specific, actionable feedback, not generic advice from Stack Overflow.

System Design Practice

Work through real system design problems together, from database modeling and API contracts to service boundaries.

Debugging Strategies

Learn how to approach bugs systematically: read stack traces, use the debugger, and think through edge cases like a senior engineer.

Decision Confidence

Stop second-guessing every technical decision. Learn how to evaluate trade-offs and make decisions with confidence.

What mentees are saying

  • “Overall, Rizky's explanations were really good. Technically they were very easy to follow, especially for someone like me who was still unfamiliar with some technical terms. On many occasions he offered sensible analogies that were much easier to digest.”

Rayhan R. H. Atmadja Computer Science Student, Universitas Negeri Surabaya

  • “Overall, the mentoring or discussion with Rizky was good and enjoyable. I gained a lot of insight and new knowledge to solve the problems I discussed, and I can apply it going forward.”

Archie V. N. Efendi Information Technology Student, Universitas Brawijaya

  • “The delivery was excellent and easy to understand. The solutions provided were very helpful for developing my website, so a project that was stuck could move forward again.”

Frequently asked questions

Got questions? They're most likely answered here.

What language is the mentoring session in?

Bahasa Indonesia. I believe it's easier to learn complex concepts in your own language, so all sessions are held in Bahasa Indonesia.

What platform is used for the session?

Google Meet, Discord, or another tool we agree on. We can screen share, code together, and discuss smoothly.

Can a session be split into several meetings?

Yes. But only for the Popular (3 hours) and Deep Dive (5 hours) packages, we can split the session into several meetings — for example 2x1.5 hours or whatever you prefer.

What topics can we cover?

Backend development in general: architecture (Clean Architecture, DDD, microservices), code review, system design, debugging, technology choices, and anything related to web app development.

Do I need to prepare before the session?

It's not required, but strongly recommended. Come with a list of questions, code you'd like reviewed, or specific topics you want to learn. The more prepared you are, the better the results.

How do I pay?

Via QRIS or bank transfer. Details will be provided after we agree on a schedule. Payment is confirmed before the session begins.

What if I need to reschedule?

Rescheduling can be done up to 24 hours before the scheduled session. Contact me via WhatsApp and we'll find another time that works.

Is it suitable for complete beginners?

Yes, I accept all levels. What matters is that you already know the basics of programming (variables, functions, loops). If you're truly just starting out, we can begin from a strong foundation.

Is there any material or notes after the session?

All the material, notes, and code snippets we discuss during the session will be shared either live or after the session ends.
